The painter Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller was an artist from Austria, whose art style can primarily be attributed to Realism. The artist lived for a total of 72 jaar and was born in the year 1793 in Vienna and passed away in the year 1865.

The image is one of the most important works of Austrian painting. It has Waldmüller not just as impressive portraitist, but also as an outstanding landscape painter. The special feature of the painting is the successful combination of man and nature. The sitter is not set in front of the landscape, but it is in the middle of the hilly and wooded terrain that surrounds it. This is credible mainly due to the lighting situation, because this sunlight spreads over nature, plays around also portrayed himself. 35 years included the painter when he painted in fine packaged as walkers in the Vienna Woods.
