Scriverius was een vooraanstaand historicus, dichter en geleerde van de klassieke literatuur. Zijn vrouw, Anna van der Aar, was de dochter van een Leids gemeenteraadslid. In dit paar portretten maakt Hals gebruik van de schaal, het ovale formaat en het illusionistische kader dat tientallen jaren gebruikelijk was in Nederlandse portretafdrukken. Alleen al het mannenportret werd in 1626 gegraveerd door Jan van de Velde II; indrukken zouden naar wetenschappelijke collega's in heel Europa zijn gestuurd. De panelen bleven behouden als familieaandenken, waarbij Hals dezelfde levendige effecten bereikte die hij gewoonlijk op veel grotere schaal beschreef.

In 1626 de Nederlandse schilder Frank Hals created the piece of art. The painting measures the size: 8 3/4 x 6 1/2 inch (22,2 x 16,5 cm). Olie op hout was applied by the painter as the technique for the artpiece. What is more, this artwork can be viewed in in the Het Metropolitan Museum of Art digitale collectie. The painter Frans Hals was an artist, whose style can be attributed mainly to Baroque. The Dutch artist was born in 1582 in Antwerpen, provincie Antwerpen, Vlaanderen, België en overleden op de leeftijd van 84 in 1666 in Haarlem, Noord-Holland, Nederland.
