Het stadhuis en de Place de Greve, het huidige stadhuis van de Place, het huidige 4e arrondissement. Stedelijk landschap. Aan de linkerkant kijkt de kade Pelletier, gebouwd in 1675, uit op de staking waaraan zijn naam te danken is. Achter het stadhuis, nog steeds omringd door ‘huizen met pilaren’, zien we de torens van de Saint-Jean-en-Greve.

De Greve was tot het Tweede Keizerrijk afkomstig uit een aangrenzend gebied van een kwart van het huidige terrein. Het was in twee ongelijke delen verdeeld door een palenrij die het onderste deel, dat schuin naar de haven liep, scheidde van het bovenste deel, de plek zelf. De havenstaking was in feite een reeks specifieke havens, uitgelijnd langs de rechteroever van de Seine, vanaf de straat met bars verderop in de straat Lavandières-Sainte-Opportune: jachthavenhooi, wijn, tarwe, graan, hout, steenkool, zout, veel maalt het afgescheiden water. De kerk Saint-Jean-en-Greve verdween na de opeenvolgende uitbreidingen van het stadhuis in 1803 en van 1837 tot 1841. (Zie J. Hillairet, Geschiedenis van de straten van Parijs, Deel I, p.648-650).
