This portrait of the prince wearing a uniform of the Tenth Light Dragoons and the star of the Order of the Garter is a version of Beechey's diploma work, which was presented to the Royal Academy in 1798. Another version, commisssioned by the sitter and probably painted in 1803, is in the British Royal Collection.

The version of the artwork has the size 56 1/4 x 44 1/2 in (142,9 x 113 cm) and was painted on the medium olieverf op canvas. Het kunstwerk is opgenomen in de Het Metropolitan Museum of Art digitale collectie. Daarnaast is de uitlijning van de digitale reproductie Portret en heeft een beeldverhouding van 1: 1.2, meaning that the length is 20% shorter than the width. The painter Sir William Beechey was a European artist, whose style can be classified as Neoclassicism. The artist was born in the year 1753 en overleed op de leeftijd van 86 in het jaar 1839.
