Franse school, 1500 - Altaarstuk uit Thuison-les-Abbeville: De Hemelvaart - fine art print

Dit paneel maakte ooit deel uit van het altaarstuk dat het hoofdaltaar van het kartuizerklooster in Thuison, net buiten Abbeville in Noord-Frankrijk, sierde. Op de buitenkant van de vleugels van het altaarstuk zijn vier heiligen geschilderd die in nissen stonden. Toen de vleugels open waren, vertelde de binnenkant van het altaarstuk het verhaal van het lijden en de opstanding van Christus door middel van geschilderde verhalen aan de binnenkant van de vleugels en geschilderde en vergulde gravures in het centrale heiligdom waarvan het centrale onderwerp ongetwijfeld de kruisiging was. De gravures zijn niet bewaard gebleven. De voor- en achterkant van de vleugels werden halverwege de 19e eeuw uit elkaar gezaagd; alle vleugelpanelen behalve één verhaal (De intocht in Jeruzalem, Hermitage, Sint-Petersburg) bevinden zich in het Kunstinstituut.

De meer dan 520 jaar oud kunstwerk is gemaakt door de schilder Franse school in het jaar 1500. De 520 jaar oude versie van het schilderij meet de grootte: Paneel: 117,4 x 50,8 cm (46 1/4 x 20 inch); Geverfd oppervlak: 115,8 × 49,9 cm (45 9/16 × 19 5/8 inch) en is gemaakt op medium olieverf op paneel. Inscribed: SA / :REGINA:MISERICORDIE:VITA:DULCEDO:ESPES NOSTR[A]:SALVE:A (on hem of the Virgin’s mantle), SALVE SANCTA:DEI:GENI[TRIX] / OPE:RA MANUM / TV (on hem of Christ’s mantle) was the artwork's original inscription. Moveover, this piece of art is in the the Kunstinstituut Chicago's kunstcollectie, een van de grootste kunstmusea ter wereld, met een collectie die eeuwen en de hele wereld omspant.
