Dit paneel werd in 1781 geschilderd voor de tweede Turkse kamer van de appartementen van de graaf d'Artois (later Charles X [1757-1836; r. 1824-30]) in Versailles. De acht bestaande panelen uit deze kamer (zes nu in het Musee des Arts Decoratifs, Parijs, en twee in het Metropolitan Museum) zijn toegeschreven aan Jean-Siméon Rousseau de la Rottière (1747-na 1792) en zijn broer Jules-Hugues Rousseau (1743-1806). Turkse onderwerpen bleven tot de tweede helft van de achttiende eeuw populair als decoratie in Frankrijk.
