English: Swedish artists often present Paris to us in small, sketchy excerpts from everyday life. These studies served as souvenirs for the artists themselves, but were also appreciated by collectors. The name of the street in this painting is unknown, but Hugo Birger was renting a studio together with Ernst Josephson on rue Gabrielle in Montmartre at the time. The painter was born in the year 1854 in Stockholm, Stockholm county, Sweden and deceased at the age of 33 in 1887.
