Rubens made this oil sketch in preparation for a large canvas formerly in Berlin (destroyed in 1945). The final composition was proportionately taller, with God the Father moved closer to the Virgin, who seems to more strongly ascend. In earlier works by Rubens and in Coronations going back to the late Middle Ages, Christ’s role is even more dominant than here.

In 1632 the artist Peter Paul Rubens painted the piece of art. The artwork was painted with the size: 19 5/8 x 16 inch (49,8 x 40,6 cm). Olie op hout was applied by the Dutch painter as the technique for the artwork. What is more, the piece of art is in the the art collection of Het Metropolitan Museum of Art, which is one of the world's largest and finest art museums, which includes more than two million works of art spanning five thousand years of world culture, from prehistory to the present and from every part of the globe..
