This painting is typical of Inness’ work during the final decade of his career. Its provenance and exhibition history are obscure for there are other paintings by the artist with the same subject, title, size, and date.

Zonsopgang was painted by George Inness in 1887. De 130 year old artpiece had the size: 30 x 45 1/4 inch (76,2 x 114,9 cm) en werd geschilderd met de techniek van olieverf op canvas. Bovendien behoort dit kunstwerk tot de kunstcollectie van Het Metropolitan Museum of Art, een van 's werelds grootste en mooiste kunstmusea, met meer dan twee miljoen kunstwerken verspreid over vijfduizend jaar wereldcultuur, van de prehistorie tot heden en uit alle delen van de wereld.. The painter George Inness was a North American artist from United States, whose art style was mainly Impressionism. The Impressionist painter was born in 1825 and died at the age of 69 in het jaar 1894 in Bridge of Allan, Schotland.
