Antiochus wordt getroffen door een mysterieuze ziekte en ligt bijna dood in bed. Zijn rouwende vader, die onlangs Stratonice tot vrouw heeft genomen, roept een dokter. De dokter merkt op dat de aanblik van de jonge vrouw de pols van Antiochus versnelt en dat hartstocht zijn ziekte veroorzaakt. De dokter beschrijft de hachelijke situatie van de jongen aan zijn vader, die onbaatzuchtig Stratonice aan zijn zoon aanbiedt. This 18th century painting was made by the Italian painter Pompeo Batoni. The more than 270 years old original was made with the exact dimensions: Framed: 33,3 x 39,5 x 5,4 cm (13 1/8 x 15 9/16 x 2 1/8 in); Unframed: 24,2 x 30,5 cm (9 1/2 x 12 in) and was produced on the medium olieverf op canvas. The painter Pompeo Batoni was a European artist, whose style can be classified as Rococo. The Italian painter lived for a total of 79 jaar en is geboren in 1708 in Lucca, Lucca province, Tuscany, Italy and died in 1787 in Rome, Roma province, Lazio, Italy.
