A native of Newport, Rhode Island, and Stuart’s first cousin, Joseph Anthony was trained as a silversmith and jeweler, his family business. Anthony moved to Philadelphia about 1783 where his trade thrived, and he married Henrietta Hillegas of that city shortly thereafter. This picture, painted in Stuart’s best English manner, fully captures the confident mood of this substantial craftsman, whose ruddy good looks and careful dress suggest success and happiness.

Jozef Antonius jr. was created by Gilbert Stuart in the year 1795. The original version measures the exact dimensions: 30 x 24 1/2 in (76,2 x 62,2 cm). Olieverf op canvas was applied by the painter as the technique for the work of art. Furthermore, the work of art is included in the digital art collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Gilbert Stuart was a painter, whose style can be attributed primarily to Rococo. The North American artist lived for a total of 73 jaar - geboren in het jaar 1755 in North Kingstown, Washington County, Rhode Island, Verenigde Staten en overleden in het jaar 1828 in Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, Verenigde Staten.
