Charles van Beveren schilderde de beeldhouwer Louis Royer en zijn vrouw nadat het echtpaar was teruggekeerd uit Italië. Royer zit in zijn atelier, omringd door de werken die hij tijdens zijn jaren in Rome maakte. Deze zijn bij terugkomst door de Nederlandse staat aangekocht. Twee van deze sculpturen worden in deze galerij tentoongesteld. Op de achtergrond van het portret van zijn vrouw verschijnen ook werken van Royer.
