Olieverf was used by the painter as the technique for the painting. "Signature apocryphal - Bottom left, on the back of the chair: "F.van Mieris 1660"" was the painting's inscription. Today, this artwork is in the the art collection of Petit Palais - Musée des Beaux-Arts de la Ville de Paris. The gentleman in the shop, "Trooper gallant", "The Carpet Merchant", one can not clearly define the subject of the painting. It is also sometimes described as "the deceived husband surprising his wife with her lover." The tables at moralizing and reading levels have made the fortune of many Dutch painters of the seventeenth century, including Franz van Mieris. It is one of the representatives of this painting called "fine", combining illusionism and chiaroscuro games inspired by the art of Rembrandt.Ce table is an old copy of the "Cavalier and Merchant" (Vienna, Kunsthistorisches Museum). The artist has taken over all the elements in place by Mieris in the original, in a format, this time, perfectly rectangular, and has accentuated the effect of chiaroscuro.
